Breakout Furniture refers to furniture that promotes social interaction and relaxation. It’s used in allocated spaces generally referred to as a hub or staff room and stimulates interaction, giving employees a space to retreat to have a break and escape the workplace. This breakout area can also be where staff take coffee breaks, have lunch or just escape to have a change of scenery. These areas can also incorporate soft furnishing solutions such as work booths with tables to promote agile working, this encourages staff to not be confined to their workstations. It also solves problems around shortages of meeting rooms, providing informal meeting spaces for small groups that can’t be booked. These areas are dubbed as Third Spaces; extensions of the office and meeting room but without formality.
